VitaGoat Site Requirements
 
The following specifies the stand-alone site requirements for the VitaGoat in terms of space, furnishings and utensils. The VitaGoat could also share space in an existing food-processing facility.
 

1. Production Room 'Wet Area' (see diagram on following page)

  • Approx. 10-12 square meters minimum.
  • Large sink(s) or tubs for cleaning, capable of taking a vessel of 30 cm diameter.
  • Floor of cement or tile, preferably with floor drain. Walls should also resist water and humidity.
  • Good ventilation, with screened windows, fan or vents for air circulation.
  • The boiler is to be located in the corner of the room. Chimney pipes of 2 meters are included with the boiler, but they must be connected to local pipe to exit the room at the wall or directly exit the roof over the boiler.

2. Dry Room for the storage of food supplies, etc.

  • Not in the same room as the production area, to avoid splashing with water. Heat and humidity greatly speed the deterioration of the dry food.
  • Dry room to have ventilation and protection from insects and rodents.
  • Approx. 10 - 12 square meters of space.

3. Furnishings, utensils and misc. supplies required.

  • Vessels to contain and produce soymilk and other liquid products : Minimum of 5 plastic pails 20 liters
  • Vessels for the soaking of soya beans : Minimum of 5 plastic pails 20 liters.
  • A large quantity (5-10 sq. m.) of cheese cloth or other light, porous fabric for use in soymilk or other filtration and tofu production.
  • 2 large tables or work surfaces. Each: 1 m wide x 2 m long x 75 cm high (relatively low). Top should be covered in plastic or be washable.
  • 1 small step or box (approx. 30 cm or so.) to stand on to put food into top of cooker. (cooker stands on table)
  • A scale which weighs up to 5 kg.
  • Various utensils, sieves, etc. to drain and process the food products
  • Large rubber gloves and rubber boots for main production workers.
  • A moderate volume of smaller containers for initial distribution of sample foods to recipients. (plastic cups, bottles, bags, etc.)
  • Soap / detergent / cleaning brushes etc.

4. Water

  • A source of drinking water, either from a well or roof tank, etc.
  • A hose to reach from a water vessel or tank, to the boiler.
  • A water filter if the water is cloudy or with sedimentation.

5. Fuel

  • Any one of : Firewood, coal, bottled gas (with burner), dung chips, or any combustible biomass.
